On the outskirts of the village of Čižice, at the edge of a wooded hill, an original family house has been created, reminiscent of an observation tower in its design. The inspiration for the design was the original cottage on the plot and the owner's passion for observing nature. Therefore, the architects opted for a concept that aligns more closely with a natural lookout than a traditional village house.
Architectural Concept
The house was designed as a vertical structure with a clearly defined mass, contrasting with the horizontal character of the surrounding landscape. The living spaces are situated within the tower, while the utility areas are partially embedded into the slope. This approach allows the house to appear subtle when viewed from the forest and simultaneously offers exceptional views from the upper floors.
Due to the eastern orientation of the house, significant attention was given to the manipulation of light. The tower is designed to bring morning light into the interior and, through the higher floors, capture the western sun as well. This effect creates a dynamic atmosphere and emphasizes the connection between the interior and the surrounding nature.
Material Solution
Wood is the primary material of the house. Spruce was used for the load-bearing structure, treated variants for the façade, and in the interior in the form of bleached laminated panels. Wood, as the dominant element, imparts a warm and natural character to the house, ensuring its harmonious integration into the landscape.
Roof Observation Deck
The crowning feature of the design is the rooftop study, which also serves as a lookout over the surrounding landscape. This space allows the owner, a nature enthusiast, an intense connection with the environment and provides a unique place for relaxation and work.
Project Value
The Tower House represents a bold and unconventional approach to family living. Its concept challenges established notions of village architecture and offers a new perspective on the fusion of functionality, aesthetics, and sustainability. The simple and clean lines of the tower, along with the use of natural materials, underscore respect for the place and landscape.
