RADYŇSKÁ APARTMENT BUILDING

The apartment building on Radyňská Street in the Slovany district of Plzeň replaces two older houses that were demolished. The new building, however, retains their original proportions and sensitively translates them into modern architecture. The main idea was to create a building that reflects contemporary architectural trends while respecting the historical character of the location.

The street façade, oriented to the north, is designed as a strictly regular grid. The use of perforated corten steel sheets gives the building a distinctive identity and clearly responds to the tasteless reconstructions of the surrounding buildings. The corten material with natural patina refers to the detailed craftsmanship of old façades, which in this part of the city often suffer from inappropriate modern interventions.

The southern façade, facing the courtyard, is more open and appears optimistic. Its colorful design brings a bright and pleasant element to the residential garden, contrasting with the street side of the building.

The project exemplifies how modern architecture can sensitively reflect historical context while introducing innovative elements that enliven the urban environment.
