CZECH ARCHITECTURE AWARD 2020 – NOMINATION

BUILDING OF THE YEAR OF THE PLZEŇ REGION 2019 – MAYOR'S AWARD

The Vinice-Sylván apartment building is situated at the boundary between the last panel buildings and lower, post-revolutionary developments. The complex consists of an L-shaped building and a tower. The building's expression is not based on color schemes but on a regular grid of simple elements and windows. This approach responds to the colorful housing estates, where modern coloration has recently reached unprecedented levels. The task was to design a building with a very low budget. Our aim was to demonstrate that a strong architectural expression can be achieved using inexpensive elements, such as prefabricated balconies and corrugated translucent panels on the loggias. Special attention was given to the inner courtyard, where we designed a retention basin and space for tall trees.
