TERRACED HOUSES TWO TOWERS

PLZEŇ / NOVÁ, ZÁBRAN / 2014

Two houses on Révová Street were developed as a project requiring a terraced semi-detached house, similar to those on adjacent plots. The investor was persuaded to allow the placement of two slender vertical masses separated by a small courtyard, instead of a standard terraced block. The design thus follows the character of workers' housing with small courtyards in the area.

The project was approached more in cross-section than in floor plan. The houses are not organized in standard levels but in half-floors, creating a dynamic spatial experience. The staircase is not just a means of vertical circulation but an integral part of the living area. This approach optimized space efficiency on a limited footprint.

The houses feature vertically segmented façades, which create a clear rhythm and enhance the overall proportions of the buildings. The careful selection of materials and scale ensures that the houses appear light and naturally embeddedwithin their urban setting.

This project demonstrates that even in a terraced housing typology, spatial variability can be explored to achieve a distinctive and high-quality living environment.
