BUILDING OF THE YEAR OF THE PLZEŇ REGION 2018 – MAYOR'S AWARD

The building at Senecký Pond underwent a complete reconstruction to create a space for children's leisure activities and tourists. Due to its location in a forested environment, it was not possible to expand the existing volume, so the project focused on thoroughly improving the current state.

The designers retained the basic shape and structure of the original building but significantly transformed its façade. A wooden cladding gave the structure a new character, allowing it to blend better into the natural context of the site. Lowered windows on the ground floor provide children with direct contact with the surrounding nature.

The reconstruction resulted in several functional zones: a fully equipped kindergarten with spacious playrooms on the ground floor, while other parts of the building were adapted for clubrooms and facilities for scouts and tourists.

The project demonstrates that even with limited possibilities, it is possible to achieve a significant improvement in the quality of a building that remains fully integrated into its natural surroundings.
