ČESKÁ CENA ZA ARCHITEKTURU 2017 - NOMINATION

DŮM ROKU 2016 - THE SPECIAL AWARD

In the village of Zruč, adjacent to the main road, five terraced houses have been designed with an emphasis on privacy, functionality, and harmony with the surrounding environment. The project addresses the issue of noise from the nearby road while maintaining a pleasant connection to the surrounding landscape.

Urban Planning Solution

The original building plot, which housed a larger family home, was transformed into a space for terraced housing. To prevent the houses from appearing massive and disrupting the character of the surrounding development, they were oriented so that only the side façades face the road. The gardens of all the houses are oriented southward, each with separate access. Parking is situated on the northern side, away from the residential garden area, contributing to a peaceful environment for residents.

Architectural Concept

The masses of the individual houses were designed to provide maximum privacy for their inhabitants while allowing ample daylight and seamless integration of interior spaces with the exterior. Shed roofs are designed to minimize shading of neighboring houses and establish a regular rhythm for the ensemble.

Each house features an entrance hall, living area with covered terrace, WC, storage room, and a space that can be used as a study or additional room on the ground floor. The attic includes a master bedroom, two additional rooms, and a bathroom. All living spaces are connected to a roof terrace that extends towards the garden. A separate garden tool storage is located at the end of the garden.

Material Solution

The houses combine plastered surfaces on the ground floor with a dark gray finish and façades of impregnated vertical spruce boards on the upper floor. This material arrangement provides the buildings with a modern and elegant appearance while maintaining a natural and unpretentious character. Covered terraces and large windows emphasize the connection between the interior and the surrounding garden.

The project exemplifies a sensitive approach to terraced housing, combining urban functionality, aesthetics, and comfort for residents.
